Academic Goals & Philosophy

The academic mission of Copper Canyon Academy is to promote the development of young women by means of a challenging and varied course of study that prepares them to live as productive and well-adjusted members of society. Copper Canyon Academy integrates middle school and high school academics with emotional growth. Comparable emphasis is placed on a student’s personal development alongside her academic growth. And as a small, nurturing community featuring a structured and safe daily life, the two are seamlessly connected. In this light, the CCA academic program strives for:
  • Student success, which, for some of our students may be unprecedented, and the achievement of which bolsters feelings of confidence and pride;
  • A sustained love of learning, so that students are inspired to become lifelong learners;
  • Critical thinking skills, and not the mere regurgitation of facts, in order to create an enhanced degree of self-awareness and understanding;
  • A sense of self-discipline, so that students are better organized, self-sufficient, and focused.

BECOME A CRITICAL THINKER

In a complex world where information is expanding at an exponential rate, it is necessary for students to have proficient critical thinking skills. Critical thinking skills also enable a student to dig deeper into subjects and understand the world around them. Ideally, critical thinking skills are also used to create a greater degree of self-awareness and understanding.

SELF-DISCIPLINE

It is necessary for students to develop self-discipline to complete assignments, attend classes, and earn a diploma. Self-discipline means not only the ability to complete tasks that are unpleasant and difficult, but also the ability to stay focused, remain persistent, and get organized. This trait serves students throughout their lifetime.
